15. “Good Morning Britain” (VHS)

In 1991 Robin and Maurice made an appearance on “Good Morning Britain”.

First up was the cooking segment. Where Robin and Maurice watched as Rustie Lee (who commented that she found out they were twins the last time they were on the show) made Bacon and Avocado Tacos.

Considering the fact that Robin is a vegetarian makes for a few laughs here. “Is anyone really going to eat this? I mean this early in the morning.” “It really looks like it’s finished. In fact, it looks dead.” (Robin) And when Lorraine Kelly asks if Robin could eat it if they took the bacon out. “You’d have to coax him.” (Maurice) “Pay me alot of money.” (Robin)

After the cooking segment the twins join Mike Morris and Lorraine Kelly to talk about their “High Civilization” album and the first single from the album “Secret Love”. And a clip from the video is shown.

From Robin we learn that it is “important to have a style that people can identify.”

From Maurice “We like to record singles on our lp. We like them all to be singles.”

And most important for us fans. When asked why don’t they give up and relax.

“That wouldn’t be relaxing.” (Robin)

“We love working.” (Maurice)

And the fans love what you do!

14. “Ellen Opening” (VHS)

During the fourth season of Ellen’s half hour sitcom show. Each week different musical acts would sing the theme song at the beginning of the show.

On May 14, 1997 for the show titled “Moving On” the Bee Gees made an uncredited appearance in the opening sequence.

The Bee Gees (looking so sexy) were all dressed in black as they stood with Ellen around one mic. With their beautiful and perfect harmony Robin, Maurice and Barry began to sing acapella.

“Know I’m close I’ll keep my promises.

I’ll always listen when you talk to me.

I’ll always hear you.”

As the brothers finish singing, Ellen covers her ear and sings “Yeahhh…” off key.

13. “Space Ghost” (VHS)

On April 15, 1994 the Bee Gees made a brief appearance on Space Ghost.

It began when Moltar, as he’s watching the screen asks. “How could this be? There are three of them.”

Space Ghost is sitting behind the interview desk.

“Moltar! What is it?”

“It’s the blasted Bee Gees.” (Moltar)

“What? How can this be?” (Space Ghost)

“They say you called them to be on the show.” (Moltar)

“Why I never called…Zorak!” (Space Ghost)

“I must go to the store to get butter and cheese.” (Zorak says twice)

“Standby Space Ghost.” (Moltar)

The Bee Gees appear on the TV screen beside Space Ghost. “Hello Bee Gees. Are you in good spirits?”

“It depends on what we’ve been eating, Space Ghost. It depends on the foods.” (Robin)

Between laughter the Bee Gees say “Come on Space Ghost, Come on.”

“This is the Bee Gees. Boy, if only we could really, just fry them.” (Space Ghost)

The Bee Gees continue laughing.

12. “Crook + Chase” (VHS)

Shortly after the Bee Gees were inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame on May 6, 1997. And leading up to their Las Vegas “One Night Only” concert to be held in November. The Bee Gees did an interview live via satellite from London with Crook + Chase in Nashville Tennessee.

To show the delay time Charlie Chase asked the brothers to raise their right hand. Maurice and Robin raise their right hand, as Barry raises his left. “It takes just a couple seconds” (Lorianne Crook) “And Barry has a problem with which hand to use.” (Chase)

Lorianne asks about the “One Night Only” Concert. “Why is it just one night? Are you teasing us?”

“Tease you, no. We wouldn’t do that. No, no. We’d tempt you a little. But not tease.” (Maurice)

“Celine Dion will be doing a song called ‘Immortality’. Which is a song we wrote. And she recorded on her new album.” (Robin)

When asked what the fans like to hear in concert. We learn they will sing a mix of their old and new songs. When asked how Las Vegas is preparing for the Bee Gees. “They are going to line the streets with one armed bandits.” (Barry)

When the brothers are asked how they look back on “How Deep Is Your Love”. We learn from Barry that they wrote it in “France in prison.”

While answering the question ‘What is it like looking back on Saturday Night Fever?’ Maurice says that “…we’re very blessed.”

“I’m very blessed.” (Barry)

“You’re very blessed. But that’s just a rumor.” (Maurice)

To the question. How difficult is life as a living legend? “Best year of our lives. And we’re enjoying it. And we’re not the only people enjoying it. Our kids are enjoying it. Our families.” (Barry)

“A lot of people are enjoying it at our expense.” (Robin)

“We don’t take it for granted. We really don’t. We love to have fun and we’re very blessed.” (Maurice)

At the end of the interview Lorianne commented that it was cool when you get to talk to people you have idolized for so long. To find out they are down to earth, funny. Don’t take themselves so seriously.

Which Charlie adds…that they do it with alot of class.

In 1999, With archive photos and video clips. And Robin, Maurice and Barry sharing their memories. VH1 brings us through the Bee Gees musical career. “We were never taught music. It was just something that was in us to begin with.” (Robin)

From their first public performance singing “Lollipop” at a movie theatre. Their childhood in England. “We where on the street until midnight.” “We were always getting in trouble with the police.” (Barry)

The move to Australia. “Sailed for 5 weeks and you start a new life in this country called Australia.” (Barry). Began performing at a race track. Being named The Bee Gees. Signing with Festival Records. “I think we made about 7 to 11 singles that all flopped in a row.” (Barry)

In 1967, as their single “Spicks + Specks” hit #1 in Australia The Bee Gees sail back to England. “We went as far as we could really go in  Australia” (Maurice) Their signing with Robert Stigwood. “We met the right man at the right time” (Robin) Stigwood releases their first single to radio without their name on it. “Begins with a B and finishes with an S.” “Then ‘To Love Somebody’ came out and they went. Their must be a real Bee Gees” (Maurice)

Then came 9 hit singles, 3 albums, success, and the fighting. Robin goes solo. “Like half of me was gone.” (Maurice)

The brothers reunite. “I made the first move. I called Barry” (Robin) And in one afternoon write “Lonely Days” and “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”.

In the early 70’s The Bee Gees go out of fashion. They go to America to get fresh ideas. Record “Jive Talkin” which hits #1. Andy releases his first album “Flowing Rivers”.

The release of the “Saturday Night Fever” movie and album. “It happened in a very strange way. It was all without hype. It was all word of mouth.” (Robin) The disco craze and the backlash. “We were very proud of those songs. They were like our kids. When it was treated badly. Yeah you’d get hurt.” (Maurice)

They stepped out of the spotlight. Writing and producing other artists.

“We share so much as people. They both impress me in every way. We’ve been together all our lives.” (Barry) “Everyday I’ve been working with my brothers. My whole life I wouldn’t trade for the world. Everyday has been a experience. And adventure. And I’d like to keep it that way.” (Maurice)

“I just have this tremendous admiration for them. I feel fortunate to be with two of the most talented people in the world.” (Robin)

10. “The Bee Gees Live From Australia” (VHS)

In March 1999 The Bee Gees went home to Australia for a “One Night Only” concert in Sydney. And in 2001 the Fox Family network aired that homecoming concert “The Bee Gees Live From Australia”.

As Robin, Maurice and Barry took to the stage. The big screen behind them flashed performance clips and album covers from throughout the years. The brothers began with “You Should Be Dancing”, “Alone”, “Stayin Alive”, “Night Fever”, “More Than A Woman”, “Islands In The Stream”, “You Win Again” and “Grease”. Vince Melouney (who played guitar for the Bee Gees in the late 60’s) joined the brothers on stage for “Massachusetts”, “To Love Somebody” and “I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You”. With Maurice clapping and jumping for the auidence the brothers broke into “One”. Then Barry said that Andy would have loved the crowd and he was sure Andy was watching. The brothers song for Andy, “(Our Love) Don’t Throw It All Away”. “Lonely Day’s”, “New York Mining Disaster 1941″, “Too Much Heaven”, “Holiday”, “Heartbreaker”, “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”, “Spicks + Specks”, “Tragedy” and “Guilty”. Then a song for their wives and childer, “How Deep Is Your Love”. “Words”, “Jive Talkin”. And with Maurice dancing the brothers ended the night with “You Should Be Dancing”.

When Fox Family TV station would break for a commercial they would show clips of Maurice. “Thanks for watching the Bee Gees. We’ll be right back.” A clip of Robin talking about how with the “This Is Where I Came In” album they went back to the basics. And how it has the same characteristics of the “Bee Gees 1st” album. A clip of Maurice telling how they worked on the “This Is Where I Came In” album the way they did in the late 60’s and 70’s. Any time I can listen to the brothers talk is a bonus. I can never get enough of their accents.

9. “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (VHS)

With the release of “This Is Where I Came In” in 2001 Robin, Maurice and Barry were kept busy promoting their new album.

Robin even did a call in interview from London to a Boston Massachusetts radio station, Star 93.7. So I was able to hear Robin on my local radio station!

The Bee Gees made an appearance on the Tonight Show to promote the new album. They sang “She Keeps On Coming”. With Robin giving an emotional performance on lead.

After the song the brothers joined Jay for an interview. When Jay asked when they first began to play. They answered in the 50’s when they were 5 and 7. They would stand on street corners and sing to try to be discovered. But Barry got arrested, for stealing a post office bike.

Maurice talked about his special guitar. Given to him by John Lennon. It is the guitar John used on “Hard Days Night” and “Help”.

Jay talked about a party they were at. Saying the brothers had sang acapella. And it was “amazing”! I think everything Robin, Maurice and Barry do is amazing! What about you?

The brothers began the show with “You Should Be Dancing” then went into “Alone”. When asked about their memories of being a Bee Gee down under. They continued with “Night Fever”, “More Than A Woman”, “Islands In The Stream”. “(Our Love) Don’t Throw It All Away”, dedicated to Andy. A medley of “Heartbreaker”, “Guilty” and “Chain Reaction”. “You Win Again”. When asked about the beakup in 1969 Barry explained how first fame broke them apart. And how they came back together when Robin came to see him telling Barry “it’s not nice when have success on your own.” When the brothers reunited they wrote, “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”. 7. “The Dating Game With Maurice and Robin”

In 1968 The Bee Gees had released their “Idea” album. “I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You” hit #8 on the single charts in the United States. And the brothers were in the states for their U.S tour.

At this time the twins made an apperance on the Dating Game. Bachelor #1 was Maurice. Bachelor #2 was a U.S Olympic gold medal winner Don Schollander. And bachelor #3 was Robin.

When the girl asked what they would do if she was sick and her father said he would take her place on their date. Maurice answered he would “smash his face in.” While Robin said “I’d see a solicitor first, then hit him.”

When the girl said she loves soft things and asked what is the first soft thing they could think. Robin said “cushion”, Maurice answered “butter”. They both had to spell their answer (those beautiful accents!). When it was time for the girl to pick who she wanted as her date. She picked Bachelor #1 - Maurice Gibb. They won a date to the diamond mines of South Africa.

Can you just imagine a game where the prize could be a date with one of the Bee Gees. I think I would have picked Bachelor #3. Who cares where they sent me on the date. The prize would being able to spend time with Robin Gibb.
