12. “Crook + Chase” (VHS)
Shortly after the Bee Gees were inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame on May 6, 1997. And leading up to their Las Vegas “One Night Only” concert to be held in November. The Bee Gees did an interview live via satellite from London with Crook + Chase in Nashville Tennessee.
To show the delay time Charlie Chase asked the brothers to raise their right hand. Maurice and Robin raise their right hand, as Barry raises his left. “It takes just a couple seconds” (Lorianne Crook) “And Barry has a problem with which hand to use.” (Chase)
Lorianne asks about the “One Night Only” Concert. “Why is it just one night? Are you teasing us?”
“Tease you, no. We wouldn’t do that. No, no. We’d tempt you a little. But not tease.” (Maurice)
“Celine Dion will be doing a song called ‘Immortality’. Which is a song we wrote. And she recorded on her new album.” (Robin)
When asked what the fans like to hear in concert. We learn they will sing a mix of their old and new songs. When asked how Las Vegas is preparing for the Bee Gees. “They are going to line the streets with one armed bandits.” (Barry)
When the brothers are asked how they look back on “How Deep Is Your Love”. We learn from Barry that they wrote it in “France in prison.”
While answering the question ‘What is it like looking back on Saturday Night Fever?’ Maurice says that “…we’re very blessed.”
“I’m very blessed.” (Barry)
“You’re very blessed. But that’s just a rumor.” (Maurice)
To the question. How difficult is life as a living legend? “Best year of our lives. And we’re enjoying it. And we’re not the only people enjoying it. Our kids are enjoying it. Our families.” (Barry)
“A lot of people are enjoying it at our expense.” (Robin)
“We don’t take it for granted. We really don’t. We love to have fun and we’re very blessed.” (Maurice)
At the end of the interview Lorianne commented that it was cool when you get to talk to people you have idolized for so long. To find out they are down to earth, funny. Don’t take themselves so seriously.
Which Charlie adds…that they do it with alot of class.
